Tips for Optimal Eye Health

Tips for Optimal Eye Health

You have probably heard many times how to take care of your body and each of its systems. But how much do you think about your healthy eyesight?

Most eye care tips are limited to “don’t watch TV too often” or “don’t use a computer or cell phone”. However, these tips are somewhat outdated.

While they are still useful, the reality is that we usually spend a few hours a day in front of a computer screen for work, school, or other activities.

That’s why today we want to talk about some tips to help maintain healthy eyesight.

Improve your diet

What you eat can greatly affect your eyesight. This is because the amount of vitamins you give your eyes comes from food.

One of the best foods that you can choose for healthy eyesight is carrots, which are rich in vitamins A and C. They are responsible for maintaining and improving eye health.

However, this is not the only way when food affects the eyes. If you poorly eat, it increases the risk of diseases such as glaucoma.

Wear sunglasses as often as possible

Sunglasses do not only exist for you to be fashionable. They also help reduce the effects of UV rays on the eyes. If you go outside, you should wear sunglasses, regardless of whether is cloudy or not.

When buying sunglasses, make sure that they block at least 90% of ultraviolet rays.

Also, it is even better if they are polarized. This will maintain healthy eyesight and feel more comfortable when you are in the sun.

Talk about healthy vision with a specialist

Only an ophthalmologist can tell you exactly how to deal with your vision. The procedure is actually very simple.

For those of you who don’t know, an eye examination consists of the following steps:

  • view images through different lenses;
  • reading letters that vary in size;
  • examination of the eye with a painless device to check intraocular pressure.

Learn how to use the computer monitor screen

It is almost impossible to live without a computer screen or smartphone.

However, this does not mean that there are no ways to protect your eyesight while using them. The key is moderation.

When you watch TV, the distance you should keep on the screen is about 90 cm. If you use a computer, there should be at least 60 cm between your eyes and the screen.

You should know that using mobile phones in the dark is bad for your eyesight. It is best to always use these devices when the light is on.

Also, keep in mind that most screens have adjustable brightness. Use this setting to relax your eyesight.

Wet eyes = healthy eyes.

The eyes need constant hydration. If your eyes are dry or itchy, your vision will suffer.

If blinking is not enough, ask your ophthalmologist to recommend some moisturizing drops to use from time to time.

If you spend several hours a day in front of a computer, drip one drop into each eye every three hours or when you feel any discomfort. This will help you maintain healthy eyesight.

As you can see, all these tips for healthy eyes are very easy to follow. Just take care of your eyes as you would any other part of your body and follow these tips to have healthy eyesight.
